Mansfield 4
Barnet 0
Stags chalked up a fantastic 4-0 win over Barnet at Field Mill with Richie Barker opening the proceedings with a well placed Penalty in the tenth minute Simon Brown and Adam Rundle added to the tally and Barker got his second late in the second half.
Back at Field Mill for the league game against London outfit Barnet. Peter Shirtliff played a much changed squad to the one that fell to Hereford United midweek. included in the squad was debutante Jonathan D'Laryea on an initial one month loan from Premiership Side Manchester City.
The stags came out of the blocks with all guns blazing and it was no surprise that it was the home side that had the first shot at target. In the second minute Gareth Jelleyman got on the end of a Gus Uhlenbeek Cross but his shot fired high over the cross bar.
10 minutes Simon King Shoulder barged Simon Brown off the ball and to ground as he picked up a perfect cross from Adam Rundle. And as the incident happened in the box referee Mr Boyeson was left opportunity to point to0 the penalty spot. Richie Barker spotted the ball and hit the penalty that ricocheted off the underside of the cross bar and over the line to open the scoring for the Stags. In the next minute Simon Brown through on goal again hit a first time effort but this time he got caught on the wrong foot and his effort slammed into the outside of the netting.
Two chances in quick succession came in the 22nd minute the first Richie Barker getting on the end of a Simon Brown cross but unfortunately he ran out of space and could only manage a soft poke across the goal mouth. The second a more powerful shot from Adam Rundle which called Barnet keeper Scott Tynan to drop to stop the ball slithering inside the near post.
Mr Boyeson added the first name to his book in the twenty fifth minute. Unfortunately it was Simon Brown, unjustly according to Stags following. The harsh decision came as Brown ran at full pace to meet a ball and keeper Tynan dived at his feet to collect it. A typical 50/50 ball should not end in a booking but unfortunately it did on this occasion.
Moments later Giulano Grazioli did a similar challenge on Kevin Pressman which left the stags shot stopper limping back to his goal mouth yet no card was produced.
In the 38th minute Both Barker and Nicky Bailey was added to thye referee's notebook following an altercation surrounding a heavy challenge on Alex John-Baptiste which left requiring treatment to a knock to the head. It was more a case of handbags at five paces with a bit of shoving and really didn't warrant a yellow card for either player.
With four minutes of normal playing time remaining the Stags sent a barrage of shots at Tynan who did well to block them. Simon Brown and Adam Rundle sent shot after shot raining in on the Bees Keeper but he somehow managed to stop the determined Stags extending the lead.
Brown again with a minute remaining got a shot on target with a well placed header from Gareth Jelleyman's perfectly weighted cross into the box.
The three minutes of extra playing time was not enough to alter the score line in an entertaining first half of football which was all one way traffic from the Stags.
Coming back from the break Barnet made their first change bringing on Liam Hatch to replace Richard Graham.
Mr Boyeson carried on his poor performance by booking Gus Uhlenbeek saying that he took a dive. The fact that he was through on goal and outside the eighteen yard box suggests otherwise and that it was simply a poor decision from a referee I wouldn't let officiate a Sunday league pub side.
The next name in the book was Gareth Jelleyman again for a fairly innocuous challenge. Sliding in for the ball he connected with it but the referee Mr Boyeson felt the challenge was late and awarded the free kick after claiming his fourth Stag scalp.
The second goal came in the 64th minute When Gus Uhlenbeek won the ball and attempted to feed centre for Simon Brown but his cross was intercepted in the heart of the Barnet defence but they didn't reckon o Giles Coke who won the ball and switched back to Uhlenbeek who ran it the rest of they into the final third before crossing towards the near post. Brown came charging in and connected witrh the ball which fired low and hard into the back of the net.
In the 68th minute the Stags won their first corner. Taken by Richie Barker from the right side the ball to Giles Coke who passed the honours to Adam Rundle who buried the ball for the Stags third of the day.
In the 73rd minute Barnet made their second change bringing on Damian Batt to replace Simon King. Immediately after the change Liam Hatch was booked for taking Rundle's ankles from underneath him.
75 minutes brought debutante into action with a long range effort from just over the half way line. The powerful shot flew through the Barnet defence but climbed over the cross bar. In a bid to make a difference Barnet made their third and last swap of the day bringing on Jason Norville to replace the booked Nicky Bailey.
The Stags's first change came in the 80th minute when Adrian Littlejohn was brought on in place of Simon Brown.
Richie Barker made it four and his second when a long ball found him in the centre of the park. As Keeper Tynan came out to narrow the angle Barker pushed forward and shoved an acute angle shot into the far post.
With four minutes left Stephen Dawson got a run out replacing Gus Uhlenbeek on the right woing.
Moments later Coke got a ball through to Littlejohn who with only the keeper to beat saw his shot scrape the outside of the upright.
When the final whistle blew the Stags kept another clean sheet and walked of the pitch worthy winners it was now upto the results around us to decide our fate in the table.
